Ripping CD's
I was thinking about getting an MP3 player recently. I never thought I would, but I was cutting the lawn (with a push mower) with my son's CD player in my pocket.... Taking to hard of a step meant a three second delay every time....And then it dawned on me. This is how MP3 players came to existance. Some computer geek was mowing the lawn, with a CD player in his pocket, and became upset over the whole skipping issue when he blurted out " My hard drive wouldn't do this" and the MP3 was born. OK I'm not sure if that is exactly how it happened, but I'm positive it was close...Going through all my CD's I have rethought the amount of space I would be able to use on an MP3 player. I ripped almost 30 CD's yesterday, and have more than that left to do. Would I need to carry the whole collection around, probably not. But it would be cool.
I started with BB King, and Kenny Wayne Sheperd, Ian Moore then I moved to Black label Society (4 CD"S) Megadeth (3CD's), Skynyrd, Aerosmith, Tears for Fears, Monster Ballads, Weezer, AC/DC, Hendrix, REM, Green day, G'n'R, System of a Down, Kiss, The Tragically Hip, Smashing Pumpkins, Whitesnake, War, Prince, Marley, P-Funk, Rammstein, Soular(local), Eagles, Haardvark, Tom Petty, Live, Downhere, Bloodhound Gang, Violent Femmes, Sepultera, Crossfade and Mudvayne just to name a few.... This could take forever! Some of these CD's I had completely forgotten about! And I am still finding more in boxes in the garage!.....
So maybe I don't need to carry around the whole collection. Still it would be cool...

Hey man, what I do is keep the tunes available on my computer and just move those songs that I want onto the player, that way I don't have to scroll through a bunch of crap to find that one song I'm jonesing for. just a suggestion! I have a 512mb (expandable) and a lot less stuff to worry about (I'm not real big on CD's, you have to be carefule with them, and I throw the darned jewel cases away first chance I get, give me something small and stable like a cassette (they're warmer sounding too). We have been buying more tunes online now, but I don't think I'd ever use the 2 gig SD card expansion that I could put in my player...
Better yet, use Eight track cassettes-- they have the best sound. So warm. Of course, nothing beats the warmth of the old 78's. Give me a break!
J had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age, but now he is recording every day. And it's all digital.
And I'd still rather be using a big fat 2" tape deck, but they cost tens of thousands of dollars.... If I could get a Studer or Tascam for what a digital unit goes for, I'd be all over it, and you'd be sleeping on the couch, because the tape machine would occupy your half of the bed......and I would cuddle it every night...
I'm looking for something in the 8GB range. The Jeep wouldn't fit a reel to reel very well...... And mowing the lawn - forget about it. 63 albums ripped and ready, and more to go....
So how did all that cuddling work out for you over the weekend, Red?
Does the Studer still respect you?
I am thinking no, because he had to sleep on the sofa. Even Tele deserted (except for mealtimes) him. Methinks that Red doesn't have it so good without Yoko.
The studer was too high maintenance, had to keep cleaning her heads and aligning her motors, she was good, though, while she lasted... she liked to tug on the lead-tape, if you know what I mean.....
I am without words. Write it on the calendar!
Sounds like time to upgrade.... The Studer I mean...... Yeah......
Don't let my wife read this.........
Oh no, here she comes.......
SSSSHHHHH....
J said I hafta sleep in the guest room now-- not enough room for me and the upright in our bed.
