Happy Fourth of July??

Hey everyone! Happy fourth! I think... I left from Linda's to go to work, leaving the top and windows out of my Jeep. It was a beautiful day.

At work it was supposed to be a nice quiet evening, holiday schedule, no Rec or showers for the seg inmates on C-tier.... Until the chest pains started (when inmates want to take a walk- the claim chest pains because we HAVE to take them to medical) Then I had to lock someone up... Then Another housing unit had to lock someone up (sending them to us...) Then more chest pains and breathing treatments.... We were non-stop all evening...

And then the rain.

As I was walking someone else's inmate over to the other segregation unit I noticed a dark, ominous cloud moving in from the north. My top was still out. Shoot. It started raining, and I mean RAINING at around 8:00pm. It did not stop. We locked down the prison at 8:30 because the power was flickering. And flickering bad. I could only imagine what my Jeep looked like in all this rain...

Well, being myself I strapped a blue medical glove over my head, and proceeded to operations to clock out. Even the Captains just laughed. A little humor on a night like that is usually well received. The time clock was out (power was out for a few hours in the operations buildings) so we proceeded to the parking lot just a little early, but with the captains blessing...

I kept the blue glove on. I was going to need it. As I rounded the corner of my vehicle and opened the door I could see everything was sopping wet. I pulled up the carpet, reaching into about three inches of standing water, and started pulling the drain plugs. Water gushed out onto the parking lot. I laughed a little. Sitting down on the drivers seat wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be. Those seats don't really hold onto too much water... It is, however, a good thing I had a small squeegee at the ready. As I drove forward, rainwater would collect at the top of the windshield, whipping back onto the inside of the windshield, effectively blinding me, but one swipe with the squeegee for every two or three swipes of the wipers kept me seeing pretty clearly.

Ever drive home and get 'dishpan hands'? Yeah, they were wrinkly. Half way home I realize that I have to go to the bathroom, and bad. Having disrupted the daily routine and all....S-S-S... So I chuckled a little.

Then the "GAS" light came on. seems I really SHOULD have gotten gas on the way TO work... I laughed a little harder. Ever notice, when you're driving by people on a highway, in the rain, with no roof on your Jeep, and a blue glove stretched over your head, how people look at you like you're crazy? i laughed a little more.

I think sometimes we ask God to give us answers to things. And we don't really see the answer, or we're not looking hard enough for them. Well I think God was telling me something. Chill out. How bad were things last night? Pretty bad. But i didn't feel like feeling bad. I felt like laughing. Perhaps I need to chill alittle. Shit happens. If I can use the term in the same paragraph relating to God's wisdom. Actually I think it is the perfect expression. And I think God would agree. He speaks my language too. And hopefully when he does I have the good sense to be listening. and listening hard. Thanks for last night God, I am hard to reach. But you always know the best route to reaching someone.

Well I have to go. Firing up the wet/dry vac.... Good thing Jeep carpets are made to come out....
