Man have I ever been looking like a banana....

Well finally the state of MD has done something for it's employees. We have been lobbying for cooler work clothes for some time, and now they have handed us there answer. It's yellow. And I mean YELLOW. Like my Jeep is to green, these golf shirts are to YELLOW. But I feel that if we are to ask for anything further down the line in regards to comfort (like BDU's instead of polyester pants) we must embrace this gift, and show them we can still be and act like proffesionals in a yellow golf shirt...

The only thing I don't like (besides the banana complex I have developed) is that there are no pockets with which to stash pens and such. No problem, for $6.50 I bought a flashlight holder that has a couple of pen slots (Kinda like a pocket protector, only its not in your pocket at all--creepy) and there is nowhere to hang your radio except at the neck, which doesn't bother me because I am so dead sexy. But seriously. Some people have voiced their dislike because of the "lack of athority" displayed in wearing these shirts. But I say fooey. I can assert my athority in a purple tube top - the inmates are still going to do as I say and show some respect. Since the shirt has no badge on it, only the state emblem on the left hand side I did ask if we would be able to wear our badges on a leather carrier on our belts. No-one got back to me on that one yet.

I have only been given one of these shirts so far, but I am running Escort and Relief (organizing officers for feeds, courtyard, reliefs etc.) all week which puts me out in the sun or in the blistering heat of the dining hall, so I have been coming home and washing it everyday, to wear it again the next day. Still some officers and inmates alike aren't sure what to think. But I know. Running to a signal 13 (assault on an officer) the other day from the courtyard I couldn't help but notice the wind whipping through my new shirt, making the run, although not the reason, quite pleasant. And the Lt and Major who were running behind me said it was nice that they could see everywhere I went. I think it is because this yellow emits it own light. Anywho - signal 13 under control, breathing mace, oppresive heat, and I, quite comfortable due to my new "summer" uniform.

But man, is it ever YELLOW........
